Who's who?

Eric Guthrie

Eric was born and educated in Forfar, leaving there to study at Aberdeen University from 1973 - 1977, where he gained an MA with Honours in Geography. After starting work in the public transport sector with the former Scottish Bus Group subsidiary Alexander's Northern in 1977, he moved into the field of local authority Public Transport Coordination with Nottinghamshire County Council in 1979.

In 1981 he qualified as a Member of the Chartered Institute of Transport. In 1983 he became Senior Engineer (Public Transport) with Avon County Council, returning to Scotland in January 1986 to take up the post of Public Transport Manager with Grampian Regional Council, which he held until local government reorganisation in 1996. From 1996 - 1999 he led a joint team delivering public transport services on behalf of Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City and the Moray Councils. He became Head of Transportation at Aberdeenshire Council in March 2000, with responsibility for Local Transport Strategy, Transportation Planning, Road Safety, and Public Transport and School Transport policy and delivery. He was also an officer advisor to the North East of Scotland Transport Partnership (NESTRANS).

He has sat as a local authority representative on the Scottish Executive's Rural Community Transport Initiative (RCTI) Steering Group and has contributed to development of national transport strategy and policy in various advisory capacities. He is a Member of the Association of Transport Coordinating Officers (ATCO), having been Scottish Chair of ATCO from 1994 - 1996 and is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Logistics and Transport.
